FirstBlood — Esports Tournament Platform
FirstBlood is an esports platform for games like Dota 2 and PUBG, offering tournaments with automated scoring, matchmaking, and real rewards. I joined as a UX/UI Designer under the Design Team Lead, then took over as team lead after their departure in June 2019. I led the full product and brand design, driving a complete redesign to boost usability and appeal to gamers. I overhauled the platform’s UI and UX, focusing on streamlined tournament flows, player profiles, and stats dashboards. Working with leadership, devs, and product managers, I made it intuitive and competitive. I built a design system in Figma—typography, colors, and components—to keep it consistent and scalable. I also refreshed the brand identity and designed the company website and marketing assets to unify the esports experience across all channels. In July 2021, after launching Mana (FirstBlood’s fintech subsidiary), I was promoted to Head of Design, overseeing both projects. I hired a mid-senior UX/UI designer to manage FirstBlood’s ongoing design while I focused on company-wide leadership and Mana.
Mentorship, Expansion, and Shutdown
As FirstBlood grew, I hired and mentored a marketing designer to strengthen visual campaigns and marketing materials. I gave feedback and process guidance to both the UX/UI and marketing designers, ensuring quality across product and brand work. I also led mobile-responsive designs for the platform and a revamped marketing site for user acquisition and sponsors. Early on, I handled presentation materials, aligning them with the new brand identity I shaped. FirstBlood, launched in 2016, shut down today, March 14, 2025, due to insufficient revenue and is merging into another project. I’m also leaving the company at this time. My work left FirstBlood with a modern, solid foundation despite the closure.
